Joining Latrobe City Libraries

Library membership is free!

You can join online  or when you visit any of our libraries in Churchill, Moe, Morwell and Traralgon. You do not need to re-apply online if you are already a member of the library.

Joining online: virtual membership

You can join online to become a virtual member. This allows you to access our eLibrary resources using your online membership number. 

Joining online: full membership

To join online, go to the Online Membership Form. When you complete the form, you will receive a temporary membership number that allows you to reserve books and other items by placing holds on the Latrobe City Libraries catalogue . You will also be able to access some online resources like eBooks and streaming films. 

To borrow items and use the libraries online services, you will need a permanent membership card which you can receive by visiting your local library and presenting your identification and proof of address details.  Please bring your temporary user number with you. You will need identification, which must show your name and current Victorian residential address.

  • drivers licence, health care card, billing notice, rental receipt etc.
  • If you're aged under 16, your parent or guardian must attend and authorise your membership providing their ID to sponsor your membership.

Members can:

  • borrow up to 30 items including books, DVDs, CDs, talking books and magazines
  • download eBooks and eMagazines
  • borrow items from other Victorian public libraries through the Libraries Victoria One Card system
  • access online resources such as eLearning and film streaming 
  • use the free public access PCs and WiFi network in all libraries 
  • use the library's facilities, meeting rooms and resources
  • join in a range of social and learning events and programs for all ages

Rural membership

If you live in Latrobe City more than 10km from your nearest Latrobe City branch library, you are eligible for an extended loan period of six weeks instead of the usual three. 

People from Boolarra, Budgeree, Callignee, Flynn, Glengarry, Hazelwood North, Toongabbie, Traralgon South, Tyers, Yallourn North, Yinnar and Yinnar South are all eligible.

This special membership has been developed to encourage all residents of Latrobe City to join the library service and take advantage of its resources.

Please note, that it does NOT include anyone living within 10km of their closest library (regardless of the library they use) nor does it include people living in towns outside of Latrobe City who may be library members (eg. Coalville, Narracan, Trafalgar, Yarragon, Willow Grove etc.)

For the children: Brighteyes and junior membership

Brighteyes Membership: My first library card

Latrobe City Libraries has a membership especially for children aged birth to six years. Sign up your child at your local branch. Just bring in your ID and your child will receive:

  • special membership card
  • Brighteyes calico library bag
  • bookmark
  • borrow picture books, junior fiction and non-fiction, children’s DVDs and CDs*
  • no fines on items borrowed from Latrobe City Libraries**

* Adult materials cannot be borrowed on this membership. **Fines may apply for items borrowed from other Libraries Victoria consortium members.

Junior Membership: A whole new world in your pocket.

Latrobe City Libraries has a membership especially for young people aged from seven to 16.

  • special membership card
  • borrow junior fiction and non-fiction, graphic novels, children’s DVDs and CDs*
  • access a range of online resources like Kanopy Kids movie streaming, eBooks and eMagazines, audio books, fun learning activities, homework help and much more!
  • no fines on items borrowed from Latrobe City Libraries**

* Adult materials cannot be borrowed on this membership. **Fines may apply for items borrowed from other Libraries Victoria consortium members.

Membership card and your responsibilities

Your User ID is the number displayed on your library membership card. Key this number (without spaces) into the User ID box in the library catalogue.

You can request a PIN (personal identification number), which together with your membership barcode number, will allow you to access the library catalogue online to place holds or renew loans. 

If you are unable to remember your PIN, you can reset it online. A reset link will be sent to your email address.

We want you to enjoy your library experience. So please remember to:

  • return borrowed items on time
  • treat library items, facilities and property with care
  • treat staff and other customers politely, respectfully and courteously
  • pay any replacement costs for lost or damaged items
  • notify the library of any change to your details
  • notify the library immediately if your card is lost or stolen
