The 3840 program is a joint partnership between Berry Street and GEST and offers students a range of pre-accredited options which include English, Digital Literacy, Hospitality, Beauty and Call Centre Operations.
There is an outreach hub for the CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) community at the Morwell Library where students Habibul, Shafi and Mohammed meet with Scott, their GEST tutor and learn English at their weekly lesson. The refugees from Myanmar are also studying for a Certificate 1 in English with Federation Training. They are determined to learn “the language and about the people and lifestyle” in their new home as well as improving their job skills for future employment.
Darren from Berry Street says the program is a great fit for the library because of its place in the community. “The program offers students a taster of what they might like to study further in order to become work-ready. The library already has many resources so it’s a natural choice.”
