Priscilla Queen of the Desert - The Musical
We welcome Latrobe Theatre Company to GPAC for the first time with this flamboyant, funny, disco-fuelled musical.
Based on the 1994 popular movie of the same name, Priscilla Queen of the Desert follows the journey of two drag queens, Tick and Adam, and a transgender woman, Bernadette, as they travel across Australia in their bus, named Priscilla.
Tick has been asked to perform at a hotel in Alice Springs by his estranged wife, Marion.
Taking Adam and Bernadette along with him, the trio drive from Sydney to the remote resort town in the middle of the desert. Tick tells his companions that the trip is a favour to his wife, from whom he is separated, but does not reveal that he also has an 8-year-old son he does not know, but who now wants to meet his father.
As they head west, Tick, Adam, and Bernadette learn to accept and support each other, whilst encountering a number of strange and colourful characters.
After experiencing violent homophobic threats, Adam is forced to realize that not everyone is accepting of his flamboyant lifestyle, whilst Bernadette opens up to the possibility of love again following the death of her husband.
Upon reaching Alice Springs, Tick finally meets his son, Benjamin, who accepts his father’s homosexual-ity and drag queen persona.
The trio perform at the resort and realize that they have forged a bond that will last forever.
Full of well-known pop songs and supported by three divas flying high above the stage, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a flamboyant, funny, disco-fuelled musical that will get you on your feet.

Celebration
The Latrobe Orchestra Inc. and Lavalla Catholic College Music Department are excited to return to the stage after an almost 3-year hiatus.
Saturday 14 May | 5PM | GPAC Theatre
Rescheduled Date
In collaboration with Lavalla Catholic College, you are invited to a twilight gala of community music in the brand-new, spectacular Gippsland Performing Arts Centre. Come and share in this celebration.
Celebration is an event for the whole community; a celebration of our local musician’s first performance on the magnificent GPAC stage; a celebration of community music making after the disruptions of the past 2 years. It is a celebration of being together.
The Latrobe Orchestra Inc. (LOI) have been an integral part of the musical landscape in Latrobe City and the wider Gippsland region for 61 years, expanding from a group of keen chamber musicians, to a thriving Beginner String Program and full orchestra here today. They look forward to performing a variety of repertoire, including Meyer’s Celebration, Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, and a rousing arrangement of New York, New York. Our Beginner String Program musicians join the stage for Vivaldi’s The Hunt and Mouret’s Fanfare Roundeau.
The Lavalla Catholic College Music Department offer secondary school musicians the opportunity to learn instruments and perform in Concert Bands, Jazz Ensembles and Choirs. Students are committed and keen to follow their passion, often attending 3 and more before school rehearsals per week. Events of the past 2 years have meant the department is in a rebuilding phase, whilst looking to support and reward the students and families who have persisted with online learning throughout covid. We know you will enjoy and support the efforts these students and staff have made to present their ensembles today.
Running Time: 90 minutes, no interval
This event has a moderate COVID refund policy. Ticketholders can seek a refund up to 5 days prior to any performance date they are unable to attend due to COVID isolation.
