Council to continue advocacy to state and federal government in 2025/26

Media Release

Latrobe City Council endorsed the 2025/26 state and federal government budget submissions and federal election priorities at its most recent Council Meeting.

The priority projects identified in Council’s current state and federal budget submissions have been carried through in the 2025/26 submissions.

Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe, said Council is proud to advocate to the state and federal governments on behalf of the Latrobe City community.

“Council is advocating for important projects to be completed, such as the inter-township railway network, the Traralgon Bypass, Moe Revitalisation Project Sage 3, and much more,” said the Mayor.

“It’s important for Council to continue advocating for more employment opportunities in Latrobe City, to increase job numbers in a range of industries.”

Within the advocacy priorities, Council has maintained its focus on previously endorsed projects including continuing to request government support for the commercialisation of the Hydrogen to Energy Supply Chain (HESC) project and ongoing funding for CarbonNet.

Council also incorporated new opportunities in the endorsed projects, including a localised job quota within the renewable energy sector, wind and hydrogen worker training centres in Latrobe City, development of a localised jobs and skills plan for Latrobe City and support for net zero uses of lignite.

These additional asks of government are consistent with Council’s submission to the Victorian Energy Jobs Plan Consultation Paper 2024, which was endorsed at the June Council Meeting.
