Parent / Carer

When your child is in the care of an organisation you want to know that they will be safe from abuse and harm.

The Victorian Child Safe Standards were introduced in response to the Federal Government’s Betrayal of Trust Inquiry and the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The Standards were introduced to protect children in the care of, or receiving services from organisations, from child abuse and harm.

Latrobe City Council is one of over 50,000 Victorian organisations who must comply with the Child Safe Standards.

The Standards are overseen by the Commission for Children and Young People.

The Commission also administers Victoria’s Reportable Conduct Scheme.  This scheme requires organisations such as Latrobe City Council to make sure they investigate and respond to any reports of abuse or harm towards children or young people made against their workers or volunteers.

Please see the resources below or visit the Parent Resource page on the  Commission website to learn more about what to look for in a child Safe organisation and tips for keeping your children safe.
