This September school holidays Latrobe City Council are delivering an exciting Stay Local Program. From 18 – 28 September, a range of fun, free and low-cost activities will be on offer.
Mayor of Latrobe City Cr Kellie O’Callaghan encouraged families to make the most of the wonderful program as it’s a free and fun way to keep the kids entertained locally.
“We are so proud to run a Stay Local School program that provides several fun activities that will be easy for local families to attend. Creating fun learning experiences and games is a great way to bring he community together and improve connection, especially for families with children,” said the Mayor.
“The line-up of activities includes something for everyone. To ensure the events can be experienced by all, the program has been created to cater for various age groups and accessibility needs.”
The program has a lot to offer, with highlights including Giant Games, held daily at the Churchill Library and $2 swim and stadium shots for the whole week leading up to the Grand Final Public Holiday.
Latrobe City Libraries will be offering several free activities for the entire family such as movie screenings, Lego building sessions, drawing workshops, a family quiz night and more.
Gippsland Performing Arts Centre will be presenting interactive plays such as Hamlet: Prince of Skidmark and Sticks Stones Broken Bones, and hosting workshops for playwriting, shadow puppets and more.
Latrobe Regional Gallery are hosting artist run workshops, including Printcraft: Carving and Wearable Art workshop with Olivia O’Connor and Wear the Wild: Forest Creatures with Sarah Seahorse.
Latrobe Leisure facilities in Churchill, Moe Newborough, Morwell and Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium have also planned a huge variety of activities across the holidays, like ninja warriors, Zumba, swimming, basketball and soccer games and more.
There will be special events such as a jam-packed Open Day at Latrobe Leisure Morwell on 22 September and an Inclusive Community Sports Day on 26 September at Latrobe Leisure Churchill.
The Sport and Rec Expo will also be held on Wednesday 27 September and will showcase many of the local sport activities and clubs that anyone can get involved in.
