Latrobe City Council has endorsed a funding application for the Gaskin Park – Oval Two Surface Upgrade, submitted to Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Country Football Netball Program.
The entire $250,000 available through this program will be required for this project. Council will also allocate a further $100,000 to the upgrade.
The delivery of this project will improve the surface of the oval and enable local sporting clubs to increase usage of the venue. Council’s current Recreation Needs Assessment identifies the highest priority football and netball project as the surface upgrades at Gaskin Park Oval Two.
The Council Plan 2021–25 outlines Council’s commitment to an increasing accessibility of our green spaces and facilities to connect community and achieve positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
Council continues to position Latrobe City for major sporting events that are accessible and inclusive for our community.
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan said the upgrades will provide great benefits to the local community.
“Many sporting teams use the Gaskin Park facilities, including Churchill Junior Football Club, Churchill Cricket Club, Gippsland Power Football Club and Churchill Football and Netball Club,” said the Mayor.
“An improved surface for Gaskin Park Oval Two will provide clubs and user groups the opportunity to obtain more participants and provide those users with a positive social experience by becoming part of a recreation club.
“Major projects such as these create increased sporting opportunities, including large-scale events, bringing economic benefits to the area.”
