Mayor’s Message
Following the recent Victorian State election, Council is continuing to focus on advocating for the current and future needs and aspirations of our City as our economy transitions.
With the re-election of the Labor Government, we have an opportunity to collaborate on the re-establishment of the State Electricity Commission (SEC) right here in Morwell. This opportunity would bring new jobs and career pathways for our community as we move toward the anticipated closures of traditional energy and mining industries and the adoption of alternative energy solutions and low emission coal technologies.
Council is pleased to see this opportunity coming to life, particularly after pursuing investment in Latrobe City’s New Energy Future as part of our State Advocacy Campaign. As part of re-establishing the SEC, the State Government outlined an initial investment of $1 billion towards delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy projects.
An investment of at least $20 million was committed to prepare the SEC for its new role in the new energy market, including setting up an office in Morwell.
Additional commitments included local mental and women’s health hubs, a $780 million road maintenance blitz, new trains and services for Gippsland along with a V/Line ticket cap.
We will continue to work with both the State and Federal Governments to ensure our City’s transition remains a focus and advocate for our community’s goals.
We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with our local members and Ministers, particularly as Council focuses on Latrobe’s transition and the economic outlook of our City.

Project Update: Moe Revitalisation Project
The Moe Revitalisation Project is now underway. The project will see the construction of a youth space including a skate park for all skill levels, a play space, barbeque and picnic area, green spaces and associated amenities.
Latrobe City Council is delivering this project in partnership with the Victorian Government. The project will be built on George Street in Moe.
Alternative parking on George Street can be found at the site of the old skate park, opposite Woolworths.
Typical project working hours will be between 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday (except in special circumstances).
Works are expected to be completed by mid-2023. Every effort will be made to minimise the impacts to the community during the construction works.
From Monday 5 December, fencing will be erected around the site with preliminary work including clearing of the area. When possible, some fencing will be removed to allow for car parking when works are not being conducted.
The new 100 space car park opposite TM&H Mitre 10 is estimated to be completed in mid- December.
