Latrobe City Council in partnership with Latrobe Leisure and Gippsport invite the community to free celebrations in recognition of International Day of People with Disability.
A range of free community events will be held on Friday 2 December at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium including parasports, silent disco, blender bike and a sausage sizzle.
Participants can try out wheelchair basketball, boccia and goal ball to get active and moving alongside others.
For those needing a break, a chill out zone will be set up with quieter activities for a chance to rest and relax.
Everyone is invited to join in on the fun, as there will be a range of activities suitable for all to enjoy.
International Day of People with Disability (3 December) is an annual celebration to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with a disability.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan looked forward to celebrating International Day of People with Disability with a range of fun events.
“Council has a commitment towards ensuring our community is a great place to live, work and visit for people with disability, their friends, families and carers. Celebrating International Day of People with Disability supports our diverse community and is a key part of our Living Well Latrobe and our Disability Access and Inclusion Plans.
“The day also provides an opportunity to recognise and thank the Disability Access and Inclusion Community Engagement Group for their contribution. By sharing their lived experience Council is able to improve our services and programs.
“We hope to see many of our community members join in the celebrations and perhaps try a new activity,” said the Mayor.
