Keep Your Gift Shopping Local With a Shop Latrobe Gift Card

Media Release

Latrobe City Council is encouraging the community to keep their Christmas spending local this year by purchasing a Shop Latrobe City gift card from participating stores.

Introduced in November 2020, the Latrobe City Gift Card program is designed to keep money in our community and increase local spending.

Over 170 businesses have registered for the program, with over $200,000 in gift cards purchased since it was launched.

The EFTPOS cards operate on a closed loop system and can only be spent in participating local stores, meaning all money spent goes back into the local economy.

Latrobe City Council Mayor Cr Kellie O’Callaghan thanked the community and businesses for embracing the program over the past two years.

“It’s fantastic to see the range of local businesses who are offering gift cards, giving people plenty of choices when it comes to spending the gift.

“As we head into the festive season, we would like to encourage our community to look locally first when it comes to gift shopping.

“By shopping locally, you’re investing in our community and supporting local jobs as every dollar spent locally recirculates and further strengthens our economy,” said the Mayor.
