Latrobe City Council welcomed a visit by Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Equality and Minister for Water Harriet Shing to the Gippsland Logistics Precinct in Morwell yesterday.
The visit was an opportunity to view Stage One of the project, which is currently underway delivering necessary roads and utility infrastructure to the site.
Council welcomed Minister Shing’s announcement to open the next round of the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund. The fund is crucial in driving regional development across the State and economic transformation in our region.
The Victorian Government provided a $5 million grant through a previous round of the Regional Jobs Infrastructure Fund towards the first stage of the Gippsland Logistics Precinct.
When fully operational, the project will create up to 500 jobs, with facilities that will attract new industries and opportunities for our City.
An Expression of Interest process is currently underway to activate businesses in the facility once it is finalised. Several businesses have expressed their interest and Council is open to additional applications.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan was thankful for the opportunity to demonstrate progress at the Gippsland Logistics Precinct and encourage further investment in Latrobe.
“The Gippsland Logistics Project is key to the economic transformation of our region – providing serviced industrial land with road and rail-based connectivity to drive industry attraction and investment.
“We also look forward to the opportunities the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund provides and continuing our partnership with the Victorian Government for positive outcomes in our City,” said Cr. O’Callaghan.
