Latrobe City Libraries Power of Words writing competition is open again, with writers asked to use photographs taken in Latrobe City as inspiration for their stories.
Launched at the Latrobe Literary Festival, entries are open for the competition until 26 August. A prize of $500 will be awarded to the winner.
To enter the competition, visit www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/library and download an entry form, or head to your local library branch to pick up a hard copy of the form and the photos.
Submissions must be no more than 2000 words, be fiction and respond to one of the images.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said the writing competition was a positive for creativity and visitation.
“The Power of Words competition is a chance to promote Latrobe City as a place to visit. The photos selected as inspiration for our writers demonstrate the heritage, history, natural scenery and potential of our wonderful region.
“From autumn colours to magical water views, farming and industrial landscape to the glittering stars above a country home, writers will use Latrobe City as a backdrop for their imagined worlds.
“The competition is open for local residents and writers from further afield too. We hope visitors are inspired to come and spend some time here to shape their stories.
“It will be a wonderful opportunity for them to see our City for its welcoming people, beauty and optimistic vibe. Given the scope of the images, we’re very excited to receive and read the entries this year,” said Cr. O’Callaghan.
