Latrobe City Council is proud to support a renewable energy project at Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House, announced on Tuesday, 15 December 2020.
The project will entail the installation of 32kW solar panels and 22kWH of storage batteries on the roof of the Kath Teychenne Centre – where the learning house is located - early in 2021.
The project is scheduled to be completed by 30 April 2021 and was announced by Eastern Victoria MLC Harriet Shing.
The system will enable the house to offer on-site displays about solar production and battery usage, and introduce energy efficiency workshops to help users of the centre understand and reduce their energy consumption and take advantage of incentives and rebates available.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said the project would reduce electricity costs for the house while educating the community about renewables.
“Latrobe City is the hub of electricity production in Victoria and this project reflects the City’s transition towards using the latest technology to meet our power needs,” she said.
The project has been funded with $52,900 from the Victorian Government’s New Energy Jobs Fund Round Five, $9000 from Latrobe City Council, and $2000 from Gippsland Climate Change Network and the Energy Innovation Co-operative.
The project was developed by the supporters and committee of the Neighbourhood Learning House, the Energy Innovation Co-operative, Gippsland Climate Change Network and Latrobe City Council.
The Kath Teychenne Centre houses seven independent services and groups including the Neighbourhood Learning House. The house is one of the most active neighbourhood houses in Victoria, offering a diverse range of programs and services to the community of Latrobe City.
The ‘Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House goes renewable’ project is an initiative of the Energy Innovation Co-operative.
The Energy Innovation Co-operative is a volunteer group based in Gippsland, passionate about energy innovation and energy efficiency, and helping community groups to install renewable energy, reduce energy costs and provide jobs for the future.
