As part of its annual Capital Works Program, Latrobe City Council delivers Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Programs, along with regular road maintenance activities.
In the 2021/22 financial year, Council allocated $9.173 million to Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Programs. These programs are undertaken by external contractors and are required to keep the road network across the municipality safe for the community.
As part of the 2021/22 Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey, Latrobe City Council performed better than or equal to other regional cities and Gippsland councils relating to the condition of sealed local roads.
During the 2022/23 financial year, Council has allocated a further $9.225 million to continue improving road assets.
The current Road Reseal Program is nearing completion and has seen over 150 segments of road within the municipality resealed. The Road Rehabilitation Program has now commenced and will be completed by 30 June 2023.
Several roads that required extensive work this year included Botany Street and Vary Street Morwell, Collins Street and Pearce Link Traralgon and Chapel Street Yinnar.
Asphalt Resurfacing is also scheduled in Moore Street in Moe, roundabouts in Crinigan Road and Bridle Road in Morwell and three small roundabouts in Traralgon.
Latrobe City Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Steven Piasente said it is important to invest in these road programs that support maintenance activities to ensure the road network is safe and kept in good condition.
“Maintaining the municipality’s road network is a significant undertaking. In the last financial year our teams worked with contractors to maintain some 1448 kilometres of sealed and unsealed roads and resealed 50 kilometres of our road network,” said Mr Piasente.
“Weather conditions of past months have been challenging in not only ensuring the integrity of the road surface but in carrying out maintenance and reseal activities. We will continue to maintain our roads to a high standard, with further funding allocated for the 2022/23 financial year.
“Residents on impacted streets as part of the Road Rehabilitation Program will be given more information and notified before works commence. Community members are reminded to drive with care when they come across roadworks.”
