Badminton Victoria State Junior Event Coming To Traralgon

Badminton Victoria, in partnership with Latrobe Valley Badminton Association, is hosting the BV Junior Circuit 5 -U13/U17 Silver & U15 Bronze - Latrobe Valley at Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium (GRISS), 3-4 September.

Garry Silvester, President of Latrobe Valley Badminton Association, is excited about bringing a high-level junior event to the region for the first time in a very long time.

“Badminton has been a part of Latrobe Valley for a very long time and with the announcement of the 2026 CWG in Regional Victoria and badminton likely to be hosted in Traralgon, this junior event is just what badminton in the region needs to continue growing the number of people already playing our beautiful sport and to showcase our sport that continues to grow. Our passionate people and association look forward to a very successful tournament and hope that all players, parents, coaches, and spectators have a fantastic time in our region. I wish all participants the best of luck.”

Executive General Manager of Badminton Victoria, Tjitte “TJ” Weistra is also looking forward to hosting the event in Traralgon.

“Badminton Victoria is delighted to partner with Latrobe City and the Latrobe Valley Badminton Association in delivering what will be a fantastic showcase of badminton in the region with the best junior players in Victoria competing for valuable ranking points and trophies. BV is extremely grateful for the funding and support offered by Latrobe City Council and we look forward to making this event a great success.

Mayor of Latrobe City Council Cr Kellie O’Callaghan was looking forward to welcoming the event to Latrobe City.

“It’s fantastic to be able to host Victoria’s emerging badminton athletes in Latrobe City, raising the profile of the sport and bringing visitors to our region. It’s also a credit to the Latrobe Valley Badminton Association, who have driven participation locally and established a welcoming and inclusive culture.”

Badminton is a rapidly growing sport in Australia with the latest Ausplay data confirming over 300,000 people regularly playing badminton compared the around 150,000 the last time the data was collected. Badminton is extremely popular amongst the Asian-Australian population which primarily driving the huge growth badminton is experiencing. Badminton also enjoys well-researched and published health benefits, so we encourage anyone to give it a go and join the Latrobe Valley Badminton Association for some great fun and physical activity.
