AWOD: Playwriting Workshop: Story Telling

Christine Davey is a playwright, screenwriter, actor, director and PhD candidate. With over 30 years of experience in theatre in Australia, the UK and US, she is dedicated to telling stories through a myriad of mediums. She runs an independent theatre company – Skin Of Our Teeth Productions, who are presenting one of her plays 'Where Worlds Might Exist' on Friday 22 September as part of A Weekend of Drama.

Come and join Christine Davey as she leads us through a three-hour playwriting workshop containing fun and interactive writing exercises and lots of fabulous chat. 

Included in the workshop:

• Introduction and loosening writing exercises – getting it all moving 

• How to be a good writer (and a good reader) 

• Brief history of playwriting – to get the ball rolling 

• Layout and all the logistical stuff – because knowing the rules is important 

• Examples of text, stage directions, structure and combination of all – how it’s all put together and how we can break the rules 

• World and world building – so, so important 

• Tone, mood and pace – where, when, how and why 

• Dialogue – the big stuff 

• Character – the even bigger stuff 

• Act structure – the biggest, biggest stuff 

• Where to now – competitions/funding/submissions/legalities
