Alcohol use directly affects cognitive (thinking) and physical function - it reduces self-control and the ability to process information and assess risks.
In order to reduce the likelihood of excessive alcohol consumption, and violent behaviours, look at the tips for a safe night out drinking. If you are worried about your, or someone else's drinking, it might be worth taking an online self assessment. This on-line tool can help you understand the risks associated with moderate to heavy drinking.
If you want to speak to someone about your drinking, call Directline on 1800 888 236 for a confidential and anonymous chat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
