Urban Regional Planning

Council's Statutory Planning Team deals with permits, where as the Strategic Planning Team is responsible for making changes to or amending the Planning Scheme.

The Planning Scheme is a statutory document that controls land use and development within a municipality, it contains State and Local planning policies, zone and overlay mappings and other provision that affect how land can be used and developed.   The planning scheme will indicate if a planning permit is required to change the use of land or to construct a building, carry out works or make other changes.

Occasionally it is necessary to amend the planning scheme to ensure that it remains relevant and up-to-date.   The Planning and Environment Act 1987 and accompanying regulations outline the process to be followed where a planning permit is required by the scheme or a change is proposed.

Planning Permits & Statutory Planning

A planning permit is often required prior to the commencement of a new use of land or the construction of a building. Before commencing a new use of a building or undertaking any buildings or works, you should contact Council's Statutory Planning Department on 1300 367 700 to see whether your project will require a planning permit under the Latrobe Planning Scheme.
