Preschool Program

What is Preschool?
Preschool is attendance at a one year preschool program, prior to attending primary school. Preschool helps to build confidence and social skills and provides an opportunity for each child to develop in a safe and nurturing environment.
Latrobe City Preschool Service is partially funded by the State Government and is staffed by qualified early childhood teachers. Children attend 12 hours of preschool per week.
Children's knowledge and experiences will be increased as they participate in the many and varied activities. All children are encouraged to enrol into the preschool program and develop to their full potential through the early childhood teacher's careful planning of the preschool program.

Dates for Enrolments
Latrobe City now offers 12 hours of preschool.
Children turning four years of age by 30 April next year will have access to 12 hours of preschool each week (commencing in 2011), instead of the current 10 hours. A recent Commonwealth agreement has changed how preschool services are delivered, with the aim that by 2013 each child will have access to 15 hours of preschool in the year before they start primary school.
Latrobe City Council provides 22 preschool services across the municipality and is taking a staged approach to increased preschool hours. This will result in better outcomes for all children accessing Latrobe City’s preschool services.
