Prekinder Program

What is Prekinder?

Prekinder is a three (3) year old educational program, which operates at centres where there is sufficient demand for this service. This is of a two (2) hour duration. Additional sessions can be purchased with consultation.

Prekinder is defined as attendance in the year prior to the preschool program. This service consists of a two (2) hour program, one day per week. To be eligible for Latrobe City's prekinder program, children must be three (3) years of age before April 30, in the year of attendance.

Latrobe City Council operates a central enrolment scheme. The enrolment form allows applicants the opportunity to state the order of preference of particular prekinder groups. Fees for prekinder across the municipality are uniform.  Families have the option of paying these fees a full-year in advance, term by term or by instalments. There is no concession on the prekinder program.

Is my child eligible?

Enrolments for Prekinder in 2012 are now open for children who turn 3 years of age before 30 April 2012.

How do I enrol my child?

2012 Prekinder Enrolments

Prekinder enrolments for 2012 will be accepted at any of the Latrobe City Service Centres from Wednesday, 30 November 2011. Enrolment forms can be obtained from any Latrobe City Service Centre in Churchill, Moe, Morwell or Traralgon, or from your local preschool from Wednesday, 30 November 2011.

Parents are required to submit an enrolment form and a $25 non refundable administration fee with proof of their child's age (eg. health centre book, copy of birth certificate etc.)  The name shown on the proof of age must be the same as the name shown on the enrolment form.  Applications along with required information and payment can be made in person at any of the Latrobe City Service Centres.  Alternatively you can submit via post to: Child and Family Services, PO Box 264, Morwell, 3840.  Please include copies of relevant documents (do not post originals) and payment by cheque or money order.

Please note enrolment forms cannot be accepted at any of the local preschools.

Enrolments will remain open until Friday 23 December 2011.  Any enrolments received after this date will be considered late and considered in accordance with the relevant policy.
