Funds

Latrobe City Community Gaming Support Fund [previously known as the Gambling Impact Fund] 
Through the contributions made by local gaming venue operators under the Latrobe City Community Gaming Agreement, grants are provided to assist individuals and families, particularly those directly and indirectly affected by the associated issues of problem gaming. Latrobe City Council provides local gaming venue operators with a general rates waiver of 100% in return for contributing an amount equivalent to 110% of their general rates into the Fund to benefit our local community. Grants available bi-annually for a broad spectrum of community projects with Grant Rounds scheduled for March and September each financial year. Application Form required. Guidelines (pdf, 37kb)

 

Athlete Assistance Fund
With seed funding raised at the 2000 Olympic Torch Relay celebrations and sustained by the ongoing financial support from Latrobe City Council, funds are distributed to Latrobe Valley athletes aged 25 and under who have excelled in sport and are chosen to represent the municipality/region/state/nation in competition within Victoria, interstate or internationally.  Public donations and bequests welcome. Grants are available all year round subject to eligibility for athletes aged 25 and under selected to represent the municipality/region/state/nation in competition within Victoria, interstate or internationally. MSE Williams Youth Support Fund
The aim of the MSE Williams (Youth Support) Fund is to support any young person showing a desire and determination to further their talents and advance themselves in any field of endeavour, but who without assistance may lack the resources to achieve their full potential.  Grants of up to $500 are available.  Applications will be invited at the start of each calendar year and culminate with the announcement of the annual Grant Award(s) during Youth Week.

The MSE Williams (Youth Support) Fund was settled by the Trust on 12 July 2011 in honour of the late Mrs Margaret Sarah Elizabeth Williams, as it is principally funded by the 1995 MSE Williams Bequest.  The new Trust Fund incorporates the scholarship previously available to independent secondary school students and gives effect to the merger of the former MSE Williams Trust Fund and Independent Scholarship Fund into a perpetual Trust Fund dedicated to the advancement of all young people within our community. Jean Galbraith Scholarship Fund
A Latrobe Valley Field Naturalists initiative to commemorate the life and work of renowned botanist and writer, the late Miss Jean Galbraith of Tyers, the scholarship fund was settled by the Rotary Club of Morwell in 2000 and has been sustained through the generous support of the local Rotary Clubs and the LV Field Naturalists. This tertiary scholarship was established to support local students to study interests broadly related to the scientific interests of the late Jean Galbraith. The Scholarship is available for students who have completed at least the first year of a University science-orientated degree course including first year biology. The Scholarship is worth $500 per annum is available for each year of further study towards completion of the degree course and/or honours subject to academic performance. Bert Thompson Memorial Fund
A trust fund established by the daughters of the late W.A.(Bert) Thompson to commemorate the significant contribution of their father Bert Thompson to the Latrobe Community during his lifetime and his devotion to big band music. Their intention was to establish a perpetual fund for the annual distribution of funds for certain brass section awards at the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod and ensure the future of the W.A. Thompson Cup.

 

Edwin James Austin Fund
The late Mr Edwin (Ted) James Austin left his footprint on the community he had loved and served when he passed away in 2001.  His generous bequest saw the establishment of a perpetual scholarship awarded annually to the male and female dux of year 6 at Commercial Road Primary School for academic achievement and good citizenship. His legacy also provided for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the Morwell Rose Garden and Airlie Bank Homestead.

 

Latrobe Emergency Relief Fund
On behalf of Latrobe City Council, the Trust receives donations from the Department of Justice generated through the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court and distributes grants to the those emergency relief agencies participating in Council’s integrated Emergency Relief Network of Latrobe City [ERNLaC] and grant rounds scheduled under the ERNLaC program; to provide emergency relief services within the local community. Eva West Memorial Scholarship Fund
A scholarship worth $1000 over 3 years is available to female students in Year 12 attending one of the State secondary schools within the municipality, subject to preference, who intends to pursue business-related tertiary studies. Applications are invited at the commencement of Term 4 in the school year.Application Form required. Guidelines (pdf, 900kb)
